Another pleasingly uneventful day around here.
This evening, I watched Dr. Phibes Rises Again, and I honestly didn’t enjoy it. It’s a shame, since the original, The Abominable Dr. Phibes is a macabre delight, but this was more uninspired, silly, and dull than anything else. I had more fun tweeting about the movie and reading about the sequels that never were on Wikipedia. (A crime-fighting Dr. Phibes? Mad genius!)
I will say this, though: Peter Jeffrey and John Cater steal nearly every scene they’re in as Inspecter Trout and Superintendent Waverley. (“Every time we build a better mousetrap, sir, Phibes just builds a better mouse.”)
We need to pick a movie for the next Saturday watchalong…I’m guessing you won’t be recommending this one?
Not so much, no. Not that there isn’t much to be said for collectively watching and Twittering about a bad movie, but I don’t think Phibes would work.
Clash of the Titans maybe? Or Resident Evil?
