Real-life Twitter
Meanwhile, it turns out that Twitter’s ever-growing numbers are pretty much a lie:
A Nielsen survey reports that more than 60% of users who sign up for Twitter don’t return to the site the following month. So while Twitter’s traffic has catapulted to 6 million unique viewers each month, only 40% of new users actually stay to play.
I like and use Twitter, but I can’t say I’m surprised.

Although, as someone pointed out, are those numbers only for people who use the main site, or are they figuring in apps, and text messages, too? They don’t say in that article. I’m sure that there are lots of people who signed up for twitter, used it for a bit, installed an app they like, and have never been to twitter.com since…
I hate and don’t use Twitter (even though I’m allegedly signed up… and out to a long lunch), but I doubt that I’m any more surprised than you are.
