Why does England have to be so far away (to necessitate half-day or longer flights)? And why doesn’t the company have a travel agency who can take care of these arrangements for me?

And why hasn’t anyone invented a Star Trek style transporter yet? I’d be much happier traveling if I had one of those.
Personally, I think an ocean liner is the better way to go. You could sit in one of those lovely deck chairs and read Agatha Christie novels.
I don’t think I could convince the company to pay for that, but I agree, it has its appeal.
The issue is mostly timing. I suspect I’ll need to fly out the night before. My boss suggested meeting with an author while we’re in London — we fly in to Gatwick, then take a train or bus to Brighton — so my arrival schedule is less flexible if that happens.
