I was prepared for the next issue of Kaleidotrope to be a little longer than usual, but at what point does a zine become a short book? Is 100+ pages too many?

I’m thinking, if only to save money I don’t have on printing, I may have to cut a couple of stories and move them to April. It will still be a big issue, but when you’re over 80 pages you start looking at perfect binding — instead of saddle-stitched — which can be considerably more expensive at the (relatively low) quantities I’m printing.

Ask Granta.
A perfect example of perfect-bound. And I think their circulation’s a little better than mine, so they can likely afford it.
100+ pages? Wow…!
Sounds like it would be a good idea to push back some of the stories to the next printing.
At what point to magazines with 100+ pages of ads (such as bridal magazines) cease being magazines and become printed informercials?
Kaleidotrope is, for better or worse, almost entirely ad-free. This is 100+ pages of content.
I received some really great long stories.
