James McAvoy = “Bud Cort-with-sex appeal“?
From the review, it sounds like like the movie drops most of the plot but keeps the uncomfortably repellent power fantasy of Mark Millar’s original graphic novel.

I just read Wanted and was really put off by the ‘poor white boy in a good job. he is so put upon by all those ethnic people’. It never seemed to stop or be done with the slightest bit of irony. I was hoping that the movie jettisoned that aspect of the book along with the dumb DC supervillain alts, but apparently not!
I actually really liked the supervillain idea — in the general, if not necessarily the specifics — but there’s a lot of really ugly sentiment running throughout the story that I just didn’t care for either.
