Still wired up

That whole “up and running in minutes” promise on the side of the box? They lie. I am still without a wireless internet connection and no closer to figuring out why this new router doesn’t work, why the old why stopped working, or if those are in any way connected.

Although, the first router did set up very easily. It just, y’know, stopped working with the cable modem.

I envision more wading through tech support forums and trying to decipher instructions beyond my tech-expertise tomorrow.

  1. Good luck. My wireless router is still sitting on the desk like a useless lump of plastic. I had a guy from my ISP who’s supposed to understand this stuff better than I do come over to set it up for me, and he spent a full day swearing at it and said, uh, he’d have to get back to me about it. That was before I went on vacation. Still haven’t heard from him. I’ve been putting off getting back in touch because I haven’t felt like dealing with it, but, man, I want me some wireless networking. Especially as I somehow just managed to acquire a laptop, and it’s not really very useful unless I can actually get it on the net.

  2. It’s really annoying because I know a wireless connection can work. I had one up and running for more than a year. But then sometime early Saturday morning, it stopped working. I could connect to the network, but not the internet. Connection to the internet was spotty, at best, on the main computer, unless we took the router out of the equation altogether. I figured it was the router, so I bought a new one. It can’t even detect an internet connection.

So I don’t know if it’s the ISP, the firewall, the modem settings, the router settings, something I’m not even thinking of, or some combination of all of them.

I’m going to try running Linskys’ help software, maybe track down a number for tech support. The forums there, and elsewhere, are an overload of information that might, or just as well might not, be relevant.
