Bond issues

Quantum of Solace? Who’s in charge of naming these things?

Oh, wait. Apparently, that was Ian Fleming’s original title. It’s one of the short stories in his collection For Your Eyes Only. According to the Sci Fi Wire, the new movie “picks up where 2006’s Casino Royale left off,” but that doesn’t seem possible if they’re actually adapting the story — which, according to Wikipedia, “is not a spy story and Bond appears only in the background.” If they’re not adapting it, and they’re just adopting the next available name in the Bond franchise — after skipping over six other novels that have already been adapted…well, why bother? If you’re coming up with a new plot, and it’s Quantum of Solace in title only, why not just come up with a new and better title altogether?

Maybe it’s just me, but Quantum of Solace seems sort of lame.
