I also read some books this year…

These were some of my favorite books this year:

  1. 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill
  2. The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan
  3. No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy
  4. Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
  5. Map of Dreams by M. Rickert
  6. In The Forest Of Forgetting by Theodora Goss
  7. The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson
  8. Blankets by Craig Thompson
  9. Nekropolis by Maureen F. McHugh
  10. Generation Loss by Elizabeth Hand

Here’s the whole list, if you’re interested in discussing any of them.

  1. Wow, I’ve read none of those. (None of your top-ten list, that is. I have read a number of books on the full-year list.) I do have The Omnivore’s Dilemma on the To-Read Pile, though. And I keep vaguely thinking about picking up Blankets, because I know I’ve heard good things about it. I confess, I don’t remember now what they were, but I do remember hearing them. Which is often enough to get me to pick up a book, really.

  2. Pollan’s book is terrific, although you might not want to read it while you’re eating. I picked up his earlier book, The Botany of Desire, and I’m looking forward to reading it in the coming months.

Blankets appears deceptively long, since it’s a large book. But it’s a graphic novel, with some beautiful artwork and a sweet story.
