These were some of my favorite books this year:
- 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill
- The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan
- No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy
- Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
- Map of Dreams by M. Rickert
- In The Forest Of Forgetting by Theodora Goss
- The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson
- Blankets by Craig Thompson
- Nekropolis by Maureen F. McHugh
- Generation Loss by Elizabeth Hand
Here’s the whole list, if you’re interested in discussing any of them.
Happy new year!!
Wow, I’ve read none of those. (None of your top-ten list, that is. I have read a number of books on the full-year list.) I do have The Omnivore’s Dilemma on the To-Read Pile, though. And I keep vaguely thinking about picking up Blankets, because I know I’ve heard good things about it. I confess, I don’t remember now what they were, but I do remember hearing them. Which is often enough to get me to pick up a book, really.
Pollan’s book is terrific, although you might not want to read it while you’re eating. I picked up his earlier book, The Botany of Desire, and I’m looking forward to reading it in the coming months.
Blankets appears deceptively long, since it’s a large book. But it’s a graphic novel, with some beautiful artwork and a sweet story.
