  1. It really is. McCarthy’s prose can be difficult sometimes — apostrophes and commas are a rare occurence, for instance — but he’s a phenomenal writer. The Road is a pretty quick read. It’s sort of what might have happened if William Faulkner had written Mad Max. It’s a surprising choice for Oprah’s book club, but it’s not at all surprising that she was unable to put it down.

  2. The commas (or lack thereof) don’t bother me…I’m a diehard Saramago fan. I laugh in the face of run-on sentences!
