The finding of a parrot with an almost unparalleled power to communicate with people has brought scientists up short.
The bird, a captive African grey called N’kisi, has a vocabulary of 950 words, and shows signs of a sense of humour.
Though said not to be a big fan of Monty Python for some reason. (Link via Warren Ellis.)
And speaking of Python and parrots: Martin Lewis wishes to register a complaint. (“Well, it’s… it’s errr… probably pining for a surge…”) Via Mark Evanier.
I once saw an amazon parrot stick her head down into a rat hole and say “meow”.
And then there was dear Plucky, the male eclectus parrot who plucked all his feathers out so he was a little naked bird with a big green head. He used to reside in quarrantine in Gainesville and imitate the ringing of the phone so that you’d drop whatever you were doing and run to answer it.
I’d call that a sense of humor.
It’s all the parrot prop comics that ruin it for me.
