It’s almost like a bad joke, getting sick the day after you apply for health benefits, but here I am, with a fever, sore throat, trouble swallowing, and really nothing much I can do about it but ride it out and hope I don’t need antibiotics. I tried to arrange an appointment with University Health Services, uneager but willing to pay for the visit myself, but they only see students or staff with work-related illness. Is strep throat a work-related illness? God, I hope I don’t have strep thorat. Maybe I should feel lucky it’s not anthrax.

Murphy’s Law asserts that whatever can go wrong, will go wrong. My addendum to that: whenever you have insurance, you won’t need it; whenever you need insurance, you won’t have it.
