“Doubt can be a bond as powerful as certainty.”

This afternoon, I saw Doubt. (A friend and I were inconvenienced a couple of weeks ago when we saw Seven Pounds and a fire alarm went off midway through. They gave us each free readmission tickets. I used one today.)

The movie is very good, especially in the acting. Meryl Streep, in particular, gives a wonderfully nuanced performance, but everyone’s terrific in it.

I just can’t get over that this was written and directed by the same person who wrote and directed Joe Versus the Volcano.

  1. Hah! I enoyed Doubt a lot, especially the interplay between Streep and Hoffman. Viola Davis was devastating. John Patrick Shanley: Most Versatile Guy In Hollywood?

  2. I agree, Davis was incredible, especially in such a small part. It’s my understanding, although I’ve never seen Shanley’s original play, that her character didn’t exist there.

It should also be noted that I think Joe Versus the Volcano is an underrated little gem. It’s just a very different movie.

And here I thought I was the only person who felt that way. 🙂
