This, give or take, is what June sounded like for me:
- “Beautiful” by Storm Large
- “Grey in L.A.” by Loudon Wainwright III
- “Walkin’ Blues” by Dion
- “Sunday Morning” by Martha Berner
- “Killing Him” by Amy LaVere
- “100000 Fireflies” by the Magnetic Fields
- “Missed the Boat” by Modest Mouse
- “Pale Blue Dot” by Ice-Core Scientist
- “Be the One for Me (live)” by Dick Brave & the Backbeats
- “Place Your Bets” by Tim Fite
- “Conveyor” by Noiseland
- “Hot Tubbin'” by Ashkon
I feel like I’m locked into the 12-song-a-month limit that I imposed on myself back in January, but it’s become a little ridiculous — to the point that I’m thinking of putting together another mix of “also-rans,” the one or two songs from each month that would have made the cut, if only I was allowing myself thirteen, fourteen, or fifteen songs instead of twelve. Of course, hardly anybody but me is hearing these mixes, so maybe it’s a moot point. The offer of a one-on-one trade still stands.
I really like putting together these mixes — it’s a little like in High Fidelity where Rob’s record collection is arranged not alphabetically but autobiographically — but, if I do it again next year, I think the 12-song limit is out.
